2012 SAME Honolulu Scholarship Program!

Each year, SAME Honolulu offers several $2,500 scholarships to deserving high school seniors and college students who will be or are currently enrolled at a university with an accredited engineering or architecture program. In 2011, thanks to the generous donations of the Honolulu Post’s sustaining and general members, SAME Honolulu was able to award six $2,500 scholarships.

The application window has now closed for the 2012 SAME Honolulu Scholarship Program. In order to be considered, all applications and supporting documents needed to be postmarked by April 30, 2012. For more information, download the application form, or contact Julie Chen at jchen@ecc.net.

2011 SAME Honolulu Scholarship Winners

Each year, SAME Honolulu offers several $2,500 scholarships to deserving high school seniors and college students who will be or are currently enrolled at a university with an accredited engineering or architecture program. This year, thanks to the generous donations of the Honolulu Post’s sustaining and general members, SAME Honolulu was able to award six $2,500 scholarships to the following individuals:

1. James Joly of Mid-Pacific Institute who will attend the University of Southern California majoring in Aerospace/Astronautical Engineering.
2. Brandon Arakawa of Hawaii Baptist Academy who will attend the University of Idaho majoring in Civil Engineering.
3. Austin Barnes of the University of Hawaii at Manoa who is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Ocean and Resources Engineering.
4. William Tadekawa of Kaiser High School who will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign majoring in Electrical Engineering.
5. Catherine Kim of Kalani High School who will attend Stevens Institute of Technology majoring in Computer Science and Information Technology.
6. Jewel Montgomery of Radford High School who will attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa majoring in Civil Engineering.

The scholarship committee members consisted of Julie Chen, Paul Luersen, LCDR Andrew Wright, and Jeff Clark. A total of 29 applications were received with 3 applications disqualified after the initial screening. The committee evaluated a total of 26 very qualified applications.
