SAME Volunteers Judge Pan Pacific VEX Robotics Tournament
A warm mahalo to all of our SAME volunteers at the Dec 2-3 2011 Pan Pacific VEX Robotics Tournament. The tournament is the second largest in the world – with 104 robotics teams representing middle and high schools in Hawaii, California, Taiwan, and the People’s Republic of China.
Our SAME volunteers were active in the “hot zone” (aka the tournament pit) and also served as tournament judges. Tournament awards went to:
Tournament Champion: Robot Alliance – McKinley H.S. and Iolani H.S., Hawaii
Build Award: 4194B – ProjeXt – Taipei American School, Taipei, Taiwan
The Build Award goes to the school team whose robot construction was robust, had efficiently run mechanical and electrical components, and detailed design.
Innovate Award: 3685B – Seariders Robotics – Waianae HS, Hawaii
The school winner of the Innovate Award created a robot that was soundly crafted with limited material resources. This sea creature robot was more than attractive; its functions served well to deal with defensive maneuvers.
Judges’ Award: 1056A – Waiakea Robotics – Waiakea HS, Hilo, Hawaii
The Judges’ Award goes to the school team who used strategic planning to anticipate how to respond to a range of maneuvers and potential obstacles. This neighbor island robot had functions that were strategic and versatile.
Robot Skills Award: 359A – Hawaiian Kids – Waialua HS, Hawaii
Programming Skills Champion: 1973A – Mililani HS, Hawaii
Design Champion: 687N CAMS – California Academy of Mathematics and Science, Carson, CA
Create Award: 3008A – Kalani Falcons – Kalani HS, Hawaii
Sportsmanship Award: 941A – WaiNot – Waipahu HS, Hawaii
Think Award: 4109 – 808Robotics – Oahu, Hawaii
Judges’ Award for Safety: 2460A – NaPaniolo – Kohala HS, Kapaau, Hawaii
Energy Award: 2437Z – Lancer Robotics – Sacred Hearts Academy, Hawaii
The tournament winners go on to compete at the VEX Robotics World Championship to be held 18-21 April 2012 in Anaheim, California.
